The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, has come out with a firm stance against the Democratic Party's request for the dismissal of the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj. Balla described this initiative as a failed attempt to remove the head of state from office, emphasizing that the President has not committed any offense and that the request for dismissal will be rejected by the Assembly.
"The President of the Republic has not committed any offense and will not be dismissed, and this issue will not even be raised at all. In my assessment, there is no basis for this. I have also been informed that the DP has submitted a similar request for the dismissal of Mr. Pëllumb Pilinci, which will also be rejected," Balla declared to the media.
On the other hand, the head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, announced the submission to the Assembly of a request to initiate procedures for the dismissal of President Begaj. Bardhi accused the head of state of "serious and continuous violations of the Constitution", noting that the request is based on voluminous material documenting seven important constitutional violations, which according to the opposition seriously violate the constitutional order.
"The request has been argued in detail and we are convinced that President Begaj can no longer continue to hold this position 'de jure'," said Bardhi after the meeting of the Conference of Mayors.
