While the partial elections in 6 municipalities are only a month away, the Democratic Party still has no candidate names to offer. But for its leader, Sali Berisha, this does not seem to be a priority. Instead of giving signals of preparation for the race, he chose to pay attention to Edi Rama's baseless jokes about Donald Trump.
In a press conference, Berisha spoke at length about Rama's "insults" towards Trump and did not spare accusations against the SP candidate for Tirana, whom he described as "one of the most corrupt". But when it came to the DP candidacies, words became fewer and more cautious.
Regarding the three names rumored for Tirana, Ermal Hasimja, Edlira Çepani and Florjan Haçkaj, Berisha had only good words, but no confirmation. He said that until now, the DP has only discussed with other opposition parties the model of the candidate they will nominate and not the name.
"These are very good names. They are personalities with incomparable civic and moral values. The Democratic Party, as I have explained here, during these times has been concerned with the model, not with the names. With our allies, we have discussed the model that we will follow. That is, will this be a political candidacy of the DP or will it not be. Will this be a political candidacy of the coalition or will it not be. Will it be a political candidacy that all the parties of the coalition will support or will it not be. So, where is the biggest deal? In which model? But we have a candidacy, we have one that is incomparable to the COVID raven and we are not withdrawing from the race," said Berisha.
However, the fact that no name has been officially announced to date leaves the impression that November 9th is not that close for the opposition, or at least it does not feel like it. Until then, the DP has no choice but to take the Prime Minister's worthless jokes seriously and attack Ogerta Manastirliu, who has been campaigning in Tirana for weeks.
