The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during a conversation with citizens on social networks, repeated the call to new opposition parties to join the DP in the action against Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Berisha stressed that the DP will make every effort to achieve this unification, while also appealing to different strata of Albanian society, including civil society, intellectuals, students and pensioners.
"We will never give up on protests. We will do everything to join other opposition forces. It is time to unite against a fierce opponent. I call on civil society that has remained outside the control of Edi Rama to join us. I call on intellectuals to come out of conformism, as this is destructive," Berisha said.
This call comes at a time when steps have been taken within the DP to expel members who have expressed positions against him. Such a decision not only further reduces the party, but also loses confidence in supporting a party that is not much different from Rama's. On the other hand, it adds reasons for the new opposition parties not to join his protests, given that they have previously expressed their opposition to any cooperation with Sali Berisha.
However, the leading democrat reiterated that he will not withdraw from the protests, leaving open the possibility of their further escalation to the "last kilometer".
