Just a few days after officially assuming office as Foreign Minister (September 11, presentation by Rama and then the swearing-in on September 19), Elisa Spiropali has launched herself into the international arena.
Her first official trip: New York and the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
From September 23rd until today, Spiropali has "bombarded" social networks with posts, leaving the impression of an overcrowded calendar. But, as the photos show, most of these meetings are handshakes in the corridors, smiles in the courtyard or diplomatic selfies, rather than real negotiating tables.
September 23 – The minister dressed in white starts the day with a photo from the hotel balcony, then a video from the UN headquarters, and finally a post at the joint table.
September 24 – Dressed in black, alongside President Begaj, she appears in a video in the courtyard of the UN. In another post, she appears next to Begaj as they listen to Donald Trump's speech. A little later, in another photo, Spiropali appears without Begaj by her side, sharing images from a chance meeting with Zelensky.
September 25 – In the corridors of the UN, Spiropali was seen greeting the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, and the Austrian Foreign Minister, Beate Meinl-Reisinger. Both greetings deserved a post on the official website of the minister.
Later, another post about the Group of Friends of the Western Balkans, organized by Antonio Tajani, where Roberta Metsola was also present.
Another post was dedicated to the meeting with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, whom he met at a joint table.
A photo with Richard Grenell was also added to the list, as well as photos from a conference against extremism organized by Johann Wadephul alongside German foreign ministers.
The only real meeting – After all this "marathon" of photos in the courtyards and corridors, it seems that the only real meeting, sitting at a working table, was the one with the Kosovar counterpart Donika Gërvalla. Both, coincidentally, were dressed in red and black.
In just a few days at the UN Parliamentary Assembly, Elisa Spiropali has managed to promote her wardrobe in the corridors of the Assembly. Enough, in fact, to fill Facebook and Instagram with propaganda for lukewarm Albanian diplomacy.
