The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime will hold a preliminary hearing today against former President Ilir Meta. The hearing will start at 10:00 and will be presided over by Judge Irena Gjoka.
At this stage, the court will decide on the fate of the case, whether the file will proceed to a full trial, be returned for additional investigations to SPAK, or whether the criminal proceedings will be dismissed.
According to SPAK, suspected corruption and abuse of power schemes were uncovered during the investigation. In addition to Meta and his wife, Monika Kryemadhi, three other people have been sent to trial.
The investigations into this matter were concluded on August 29, while Meta and Kryemadhi face charges of passive corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets.
