Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Enea Karakaçi admitted that the tender for the construction of the new integrated port in Porto Romano has failed, while he did not provide any explanation regarding the progress of the infrastructure project of vital importance for the country.
"We have a withdrawal for entirely economic reasons, due to the increase in costs and the effects of the crisis, and the bidder has withdrawn, justifying it with costs," Karakaçi declared after the government meeting.
The Minister also reiterated the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama, saying that there are various types of actors for this project who are trying to stop and sabotage it for various purposes.
"I want to recall the fact that Rama spoke about this project, that there are actors of different types who are trying to stop and sabotage this project for different purposes. We will build another scenario in cooperation with the government that any other factor or actor will not be able to stop this project, because it is an important project for the economic development of the country," the minister declared.
When asked about the concern of the American Chamber of Commerce, which has also requested the cancellation of this project, Karakaçi did not comment at length, but expressed himself as follows: "The project has been conceived for two years and has had its procedural phases. The fact is that this project is of international standards and consulted by the largest port company in the world."
The tender was canceled because the only company in the competition, Archirodon, did not submit an economic offer by March 9. The tender is worth 400 million euros and is financed by the State Budget.
