Former Deputy Prime Minister, Arben Ahmetaj, reacted to Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements at the SP parliamentary group meeting, where, among other things, he mentioned his case as a "1001 black" dossier.
Through a Facebook post, Ahmetaj emphasized that the case has not yet gone to trial and the investigations have just been closed, while describing Rama's comments as a clear violation of the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence.
He pointed out the paradox of the situation, emphasizing that the Prime Minister lectures on the presumption of innocence, while he himself does not hesitate to violate this principle whenever it interests him politically. The presumption of innocence, according to Ahmetaj, is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, the legislation in force and international human rights charters.
The former Deputy Prime Minister added that the right to freedom of expression for anyone, including the Prime Minister, cannot be used to violate the presumption of innocence nor to exert pressure or influence on the decision-making of judicial bodies.
We recall that Arben Ahmetaj has been wanted by the Special Prosecution Office since July 2023, while the prosecution has seized several properties in his name and those of his family.
