SPAK has rejected the request of the monitoring mission of the Congress of Local Authorities of the Council of Europe to hold a meeting with the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
The EC delegation stayed in Albania from November 17 to 19 and had requested to meet Veliaj at the Durrës Penitentiary Institution, where he has been in detention since February 2025, in order to be informed about his situation.
Meanwhile, during the two-day visit to Tirana, the monitoring mission held meetings with several state institutions, including the Ombudsman and the Constitutional Court of Albania.
This morning, SPAK also rejected the letter from Tirana Municipality councilors requesting that Veliaj be given permission to be present at the next municipal council meeting.
