After funds for distributing announcements on social media were restored, the United States Embassy in Tirana has published an announcement that features unusual language for an official diplomatic statement.
The announcement states that “Charge d’Affaires Nancy VanHorn met with Minister Delina Ibrahimaj “to advance President Trump’s vision for fair economic partnerships that enable innovation.” Wording that goes far beyond the routine nature of the meeting and standard practice of embassies, which usually avoid such direct political references.
VanHorn and several of her predecessors, who have been waiting for the appointment of a new ambassador for years, have announced that the Embassy will provide “American expertise” on public-private partnerships and have encouraged the establishment of a stronger mechanism for reviewing investments in Albania. According to her, these initiatives “promote transparency, innovation and accountability so that businesses can thrive.”
Beyond the new "revolutionary" language of communication and the "flourishing" of businesses, the announcement does not provide any other details about the meeting — while the most prominent detail remains the fact that both officials were wearing red jackets, perhaps the only real news from this rare appearance by the embassy on social media.
