Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku appeared in Parliament today with a completely different stance than that of several other Socialist Party figures who are under investigation by SPAK. Unlike Erion Veliaj, as well as former ministers involved in similar cases, Balluku did not attack SPAK, did not accuse prosecutors, and did not question justice.
Commenting on the accusations that SPAK has brought against her, she said that even though she has been personally affected, she will never speak against justice.
"You will never hear from me accusations or insults about the new justice system, even when I am personally affected. I will not deal with prosecutors and judges. I will not comment on cases under investigation until the truth takes a definitive form, whatever that may be," said Balluku.
She accused opposition MPs of double standards in relation to SPAK, saying that they attack justice when Sali Berisha is under investigation, but change their stance when the investigations affect figures from the majority.
"When SPAK calls Saliu and you play hide-and-seek with the envelope, say it's Rama's influence. While when the issues affect the government, do the opposite," she said.
Balluku stated that the justice reform is a product of the will of the Socialist Party and Prime Minister Rama, and that the Socialists support it despite the blows they may personally receive.
This stance of hers comes in stark contrast to the public reactions of Veliaj and other former SP ministers who, in cases of investigations, have targeted SPAK, prosecutors, and judicial decision-making.
