The member of the National Council of the Democratic Party, Ilir Alimehmeti, has explained the reasons for his absence from the gathering called by the DP in front of the Prime Minister's Office on Monday afternoon. In an interview for Off the Record on A2 CNN, Alimehmeti emphasized that the National Council was not called nor consulted about this initiative.
He stated that the activity was not a protest: "It was an opportunity for MPs who apparently have great difficulties within Parliament to speak. It cannot be called a protest." According to him, the format of the podium is expected to continue every week and does not represent a genuine political reaction.
Alimehmeti underlined that the National Council did not discuss this action at all and that the information received by the members was that it was a platform for MP-citizen discussion. “I am in favor of sustainable, meaningful protests. This was not like that, just a platform,” he said.
Referring to the recent elections, Alimehmeti emphasized that the party still needs in-depth analysis, recalling that the OSCE/ODIHR has described the processes as unequal.
Finally, he declared that the major national protest would be announced soon: "We expect more next week," Alimehmeti said.
