A day after the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group proposed legal changes to Article 242, the US Chargé d'Affaires in Tirana, Nancy VanHorn, arrived today at the Albanian Parliament, where she was welcomed in a meeting by the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi.
It is learned that VanHorn will also hold a meeting with the head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla.
It is still unknown what the reason for this meeting is.
We recall that the Socialists, led by Prime Minister Rama, announced that they would amend Article 242 of the Criminal Procedure Code, removing the right of the courts to issue suspension decisions against the Prime Minister, ministers, the President, the Ombudsman and the head of the Supreme Audit Office.
The proposed legal changes come after the Constitutional Court rejected Rama's claims that the suspension of Belinda Balluku from the Special Court was a violation of the constitution, due to lack of quorum.
