The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared today that the opposition has won the political battle with the government, adding that now all that remains is the departure of Edi Rama.
According to Berisha, the opposition's protest and "peaceful uprising" has shaken the regime to its foundations and has had strong echoes in Europe and the world. He said that the opposition has defended the country's dignity and fulfilled its mission to "save Albania."
Berisha stated that the civic revolt has placed Rama "with his shoulders against the wall," accusing him of attempting to change the laws in order to protect himself and his associates from legal punishment.
According to him, these moves mark the prime minister’s “political agony” and show that the opposition is in the “last mile” of its battle. However, Berisha stressed that the war is not over yet and that the final victory will come only through a sustained civic uprising.
"We have put the regime first, but the war is won with the continuation of this uprising," he said, adding that Albanians are today more ready than ever to part with this government.
