From the podium with the Democrats of branches 8 and 10 in Tirana, Sali Berisha issued strong accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama, claiming that the expected decision of the Constitutional Court on the Belinda Balluku case is being politically dictated by the head of government.
According to Berisha, Rama has ordered the decision to be made tonight with five votes in favor, not for the sake of the law, but to protect Balluk and, essentially, his “seat of power.” He described this as a flagrant interference in justice and a threat to the independence of institutions.
In extremely harsh tones, Berisha said that at the very moment he was speaking to the Democrats, "Edi Rama's criminal organization" had ordered the judges to vote in favor of Balluk.
"Today, as we gather here, the criminal organization votes against the most vital interests of every Albanian citizen. It votes for a group of thieves, which Albania has never had in history, to continue stealing billions more," he declared.
Berisha warned that such a decision would have serious political and international consequences for Albania. According to him, it risks "breaking every bridge of connection" with the European Union and setting back the integration process.
"This decision could nullify all our 35-year efforts to integrate into the EU. They are voting after receiving the message that this issue is fundamental not only for us, but also for Brussels," Berisha stressed.
He added that, in essence, Balluku is just a "fictitious name" in this story, while the affairs belong to the prime minister.
One element that stood out in this speech was that Berisha, as he has done in recent days - and unlike other times - once again avoided mentioning by name the members of the Constitutional Court who, according to him, are expected to vote in favor of the government, even though he himself has hinted that he knows their positions very well.
