The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has publicly criticized for the first time the head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi. He reacted to Celibashi's statement that "the May 11 elections were at the level of a country that aims to join the EU", describing it as drafted in the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
"Of course now they all speak what Edi Rama's office says. They get them ready from Edi Rama's office and read them, both Ilirjani and Bajrami, and everyone in turn. There is only one press office here, that press office is only Edi Rama and there is no more ridiculous statement. The elections were a real electoral farce", said Berisha.
As we noted above, this is the first time that the DP leader has publicly criticized Celibashi. In fact, the CEC has previously been criticized for delays in the counting process and for non-transparent administration of election materials, as well as for inefficiency in handling complaints and requests from political parties.
There have also been doubts about postal voting, contributing to the credibility of the CEC, but Berisha has not found fault with Celibashi in any case.
