The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has accused the government of direct responsibility for the severe floods that affected Durrës and several other regions of the country. In a statement to the media, before the meeting with the Parliamentary Group, Berisha said that patronage activists had stolen the pumps of the Hamalla hydropower plant.
"Albanians started this year in many areas of the country, from Gjirokastra to Shkodra, but especially in Durrës and the Durrës region, with a flood of unprecedented proportions. In a flood where the state was not only not a support for citizens, but its crazy and unrestrained corruption was the main cause of this disaster. In Durrës, two powerful hydropower plants and the two main protective channels were out of order. In the Hamalla hydropower plant, patronageists had stolen three powerful pumps, all of which disappeared," he said.
Berisha added that in the waters that flooded thousands of homes, "the rotten morals of this government were also flooded," while the government continued its parties and travels.
The chief democrat continued the accusations of corruption against the Rama government, stating that "all Albanians, both within the country and Albania's friends in Europe and the world, expect the DP and the Albanian opposition to resolve the dramatic situation in Albania."
"The final solution to this situation, which in no other country, a NATO member state that claims to be moving towards the EU, is proven before the citizens and the entire world, has been prevented by an irresponsible clique, a criminal organization that robs citizens day and night," said Berisha.
He also called on citizens to join the national protest to be held on January 24 in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
