The Albanian Parliament says it will take measures to no longer be a government notary, but to increase control over the Council of Ministers.
In an Action Plan that has been made available to the Conference of Mayors, the socialists make big promises to reverse course and do the opposite of what they have done so far.
VNA has obtained the 27-page document, where the majority commits to "cleaning up its biography" after the European Commission criticized it for its parliamentary performance.
Thus, the document states that, within 2026, the Assembly must approve the electoral reform, to combat the phenomena found by the ODIHR, such as abuse of public funds and unequal competition. In the second pillar, the Socialists in the Assembly are committed to implementing the decisions of the Constitutional Court. (They are the same ones who did not hand over Olta Xhacka).
To increase parliamentary control, the document states that the Assembly will intensively use interpellations, questions and motions. (Meanwhile, so far, Edi Rama has refused every interpellation). The Assembly promises to bring ministers to report to institutions, but in parliament we have seen little or no such, but deputy ministers who bear the burden of accountability.
The Assembly, where the Socialists have rejected every Commission of Inquiry requested by the opposition in this legislature, is committed to responding to the EU's concern on this issue, and to establishing commissions of inquiry.
The Action Plan foresees that Niko Peleshi will hold periodic meetings with the heads of parliamentary groups to increase dialogue, while to increase parliamentary ethics, periodic training of deputies on how to behave is foreseen.
