Journalist Klodiana Lala, invited to the show “The Unexposed” on MCN TV, spoke extensively about the process of selecting the new head of SPAK, commenting on the names of the most talked about candidates and the possible messages of international partners. Lala emphasized that the legal procedure obliges the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) to open the competition for the new head of SPAK three months before the end of Arben Dumani's mandate. Dumani's three-year mandate ends on December 18, 2025. According to her, the KLP has officially opened the competition, inviting interested prosecutors to submit their candidacies, accompanied by the platform, investigation results, performance, as well as documentation on asset control.
"The law provides for a two-week deadline, but the KLP has extended it to three weeks. Until October 8, candidates can express interest and submit their platform. All the while, prosecutors and their families are under control, surveillance and monitoring. Then comes the phase of communication with the media and other procedures," the journalist said.
Lala particularly focused on the US representative's meeting with Arben Dumani and Klodian Braho, interpreting this as a signal of support for prosecutor Braho. "The US representative met with Dumani and Klodian Braho. The expression of this support makes me think that Mr. Braho could be one of the potential candidates. He has investigated important issues such as the Toyota Yaris file, the arrest of the chief prosecutor of Vlora, the investigations into the 5D file. He has been under pressure, but in the cases he has had, he has shown that he can lead SPAK," said Lala.
Among the other names mentioned by the journalist were:
Adnan Xholi, who has investigated organized crime cases, including the assassination of former Durres prosecutor Arjan Ndoji, as well as the drug laboratory in Frakull. According to Lala, his family is currently under protection and he is considered a strong candidate.
Sotir Kllapi, who is in charge of the “Meta” file.
Vladimir Mara, also rumored as a potential candidate.
Doloreza Musabelliu, who has carried the burden of files on two of the largest criminal organizations.
"I personally would prefer a person who has faced more public pressure. In SPAK we have prosecutors who have held very serious cases. The Americans were in SPAK today and their presence there is a clear message that they are monitoring the process. VanHorn is not going there with his head," concluded Lala.
The candidacies for the new head of SPAK are expected to be made public after the deadline on October 8, while the selection process will remain under close scrutiny by international partners, in particular the United States of America.
