The Tirana Court is expected to announce the final verdict on December 9th for the suspected perpetrator of the murder of Martin Cani and the injury of his peer in November last year.
During the hearing this Thursday, the 15-year-old's legal defense requested the reclassification of the criminal offense for the minor from "murder under qualifying circumstances" to "murder under conditions of severe psychological shock."
The prosecution had previously requested a sentence of 25 years in prison for the perpetrator, but taking into account Article 97 of the Criminal Code for minors, which stipulates that no more than half of the punishment provided for this offense in the Criminal Code may be imposed. This means that if the Prosecution's request is accepted, the perpetrator cannot be sentenced to more than 12 years in prison.
Three days before he was killed during a fight after class, Martin Cani and the suspect had had a conflict inside the school, which was seemingly resolved, but was also hushed up by the "Fan Noli" security officer herself, not being reported to the principal or the children's parents.
The tragic scene of November 18th occurred after class. They met not far from the school, where a fight broke out that ended with Martin's murder, his friend's injury, and the perpetrator's self-inflicted injury with his knife.
