The Tirana Court has decided that Elvis Shkambi, his uncle Gjon Shkambi, and security guard Banush Koxhaj will remain in custody until the investigation is completed, in connection with the serious incident that occurred on October 6th in the court premises.
In his testimony before the trial panel, security guard Banush Koxhaj stated that he was not in good health at the time of the incident, emphasizing that he had informed the chancellor about his condition.
"I was sick. Before the parties went through the scanner, I informed the chancellor that I was not feeling well, as I suffer from diabetes. About an hour later, she gave me permission to leave, but I was not replaced," he said.
The hearing against the defendants took place behind closed doors and under strict security measures, due to the serious nature of the crime.
Elvis Shkambi is accused of killing judge Astrit Kalaja inside the courtroom, as well as injuring two other people, father and son, Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj, parties to the trial, with a firearm. He faces three serious charges, “Murder of a public official”, “Murder in qualifying circumstances against parties involved in the trial, committed in collaboration and remaining in the attempt”, “Unlicensed possession of weapons and ammunition”.
Meanwhile, regarding his uncle, Gjon Shkambi, the Prosecution suspects that he was aware of his nephew's plan and played an instigating role in the clash with the opposing party, with whom he had a conflict over a property issue in Shkodra.
Investigations into the shocking incident continue, while authorities are also examining security aspects within the court premises.
