A day after ending his hunger strike, the Albanian in Greece, Pano Ruçi, has asked for foreign experts to analyze the body of his deceased son. Therefore, the exhumation of the body of Denis Ruçi, the young Albanian who lost his life in the Tempi railway accident in Greece, has been postponed to an indefinite date. The decision came after a new request from the family, which has requested the involvement of independent international experts in the process.
Greek authorities had given the green light for toxicology and DNA tests to be conducted, following persistent requests from the family – requests that also led to the end of the 23-day strike of Pano Ruçi, Denis' father. But the family, now disappointed with Greek institutions, is demanding that the expertise come from abroad.
According to the Larissa Prosecutor's Office, the process has been postponed to give the family's technical consultants time to arrive in Greece and participate in the exhumation, alongside a state forensic doctor and representatives of the Criminal Investigations.
"We don't trust anyone in Greece, after what we have experienced. We want everything to be done according to the law and with the presence of our international experts," Pano Ruçi declared for the "Live News" show on "Mega" television.
He explained that the samples that will be taken during the exhumation will also be analyzed outside Greece to guarantee an independent assessment. The new date of the procedure is expected to be made public within a few days.
The Ruçi family continues to demand transparency and justice for the tragic death of Denis, one of the victims of the accident that shocked Greece and brought the authorities' responsibilities for railway safety to the forefront.
