15 residents of Rrjoll turned themselves in to the police station this Monday, after being declared wanted by the Shkodra Police following the February 28 protest.
So far, two people have been arrested, while seven others are being investigated at large. The protest held on Saturday deteriorated into a physical clash between residents of Rrjoll and employees of a private security company, contracted by the construction firm to guarantee the safety of staff and the construction site.
The company has begun work on building a luxury resort, but for about a month it has been facing strong opposition from local residents, who are demanding its removal from the property they claim as their own.
Lawyer Ndue Pjetra described the request for the arrest of the residents as a maneuver by the Shkodra Police to curb the protests. According to him, the clash occurred with private police officers, where one of them was injured.
