After a turbulent night, the waters of the Seman River have once again flooded agricultural lands in the village of Gorica, Dimali. Although the rains have stopped, the water level continues to rise.
Farmers say they have opened canals and created lines to facilitate the water's drainage, but their efforts have not yielded results. They suspect that the flooding was not simply caused by the rains, but by other factors as well.
Greenhouses planted with tomatoes and cucumbers have been under water for five days. Farmers warn that the production has been damaged and is at risk of rotting due to the long stay in the water. The damage caused is estimated at millions of lek, and residents are seeking state assistance to return to activity.
Livestock farms are also facing the consequences of the flood. Cattle, which were evacuated from their pens a week ago, are returning today, as the water level has receded and the pens are safer.
According to residents, so far about 40 hectares of greenhouses and 120 hectares of agricultural land have been affected by the flood, while an official damage estimate has not yet been made.
