25 nurses at the "Ali Mihali" Psychiatric Hospital in Vlora went on strike this Monday, denouncing the lack of salary payments for the second consecutive month, the lack of employment contracts, minimum wages, incorrect bank statements, and the difficult conditions in which they work.
The nurses say they have requested meetings with the hospital director and representatives of the private firm that manages the cleaning service, but have not received any response for almost two months.
According to them, the refusal to provide them with employment contracts and threats of dismissal from the hospital administration are ongoing concerns that endanger not only their jobs, but also their economic security. “We are heads of households, we support our families, we have worked in this institution for over 40 years and we are treated in an unacceptable manner,” some of them say.
The State Labor Inspectorate has stated that it will initiate verifications at the institution to review the situation. Meanwhile, the hospital management has not provided any comment, passing the responsibility to the private company contracted for the sanitary service.
The sanitation workers warn that if an immediate solution to the situation is not found, they will stop working in protest.
