The Tirana Prosecution has requested a 25-year prison sentence for the minor Mario Përlleshaj, accused of the murder of Martin Cani, under the criminal offense of "Murder in qualifying circumstances against two or more persons".
Prosecutor Alma Felaj emphasized that the final sentence is in the hands of the court, citing Article 97 of the Criminal Code for Minors, according to which the maximum sentence cannot exceed 12 years. This means that, taking into account the status of the minor, he can be sentenced to a lesser sentence than half of the initial sentence. The next session will examine the conclusions of the defense and the positions of the injured parties.
The serious incident occurred on November 18, 2024 near the “Fan Noli” school, where a fight between minors ended with the death of Martin Cani and the injury of Luis Meçja. The suspected perpetrator himself was injured during the conflict. Since November last year, the 14-year-old has been held in the juvenile institution in Kavajë.
