Another serious incident has been recorded in Greek prisons, where an Albanian prisoner was seriously injured. Dhimitër Meci, 46, from Labova e Poshtme, Gjirokastra, was attacked with an improvised cutting tool in Malandrino prison.
The incident occurred today, as Meci was being transferred from Koridhalos prison to Malandrino. The suspected perpetrator is a Greek prisoner, E. Nousi, accused of criminal organization, who worked in the prison canteen.
Meci had been in pre-trial detention since early December 2025 and was being held in the psychiatric ward of Koridhalos prison. He had been arrested by Greek police in a large-scale operation, together with Albanian and Greek citizens, for the attempted murder of Greek mobster Jani Lala in May 2025. The latter was executed a few months later by another criminal group.
During searches conducted at Meci's residences in Greece and Albania, authorities found an arsenal of weapons. He is a person with numerous criminal records in Greece, previously convicted of theft, robbery, illegal possession of weapons, participation in criminal organizations and serious crimes against life.
Greek authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances of the attack, while Meci's health condition is reported to be serious.
