The court session at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime concluded this afternoon on the case related to the former President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, and the former leader of the Freedom Party, Monika Kryemadhi.
During the hearing, Ilir Meta's defense attorney, Kujtim Cakrani, read about half of the defense brief, which consists of 270 pages in total. The hearing was accompanied by debates between the parties, reflecting the tensions that characterize this judicial process.
The full reading of the defense is expected to continue in the following sessions, while the GJKKO will decide on the further steps of the procedure.
The Meta-Kryemadhi case is related to the investigations of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) against two former senior officials, who are accused of corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets. The investigations are based on several suspected episodes, including the CEZ-DIA case and lobbying in the United States.
The defendants have denied the charges, describing them as politically motivated, while the trial continues to be reviewed by the GJKKO.
