The Durrës Prosecutor's Office has ordered the seizure of documentation related to the tender for the rehabilitation of the Erzen River embankment from the Municipality of Durrës. This decision comes after the severe floods last month, which caused significant material damage. Unfortunately, the event also resulted in the loss of a human life.
The investigations launched by the prosecution focus on three criminal offenses: “Abuse of duty”, “Destruction of property by floods” and “Destruction of property by negligence”. The floods mainly affected the villages of Katund i Ri, Sukth and Fllakë, damaging agricultural lands, homes and businesses. The breach in the Erzeni embankment is the main cause of these damages.
The incident took on tragic proportions with the death of Astrit Hysenaj, 54, a cleaning worker for the Municipality of Durrës. He was swept away by the strong current and later found dead by rescuers in a canal near the former military barracks. His loss highlighted the serious consequences of poor embankment management.
The prosecutor's decision orders the seizure of all documentation at the Municipality of Durrës related to the procurement, implementation and handover of the embankment rehabilitation project. This also includes the technical and legal documentation for the construction permit. This measure aims to provide evidence for a full investigation of the incident.
