SPAK has officially requested that the case against former President Ilir Meta, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi and three other defendants be sent to trial. The case relates to charges of concealing or failing to declare assets.
The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime announced that this Tuesday it has completed the submissions within the framework of the preliminary trial in this case, closing the procedural phase against Ilir Meta, Monika Kryemadhi and three other defendants involved in the investigation.
During the court session, the prosecutor of the case requested the referral of the five defendants for trial, emphasizing that sufficient evidence has been obtained from the investigations conducted to justify the continuation of the judicial process on the merits.
Afterwards, former President Ilir Meta, who has been in detention for more than a year, took the floor in the session, while the trial against him continues in the preliminary phase.
On the other hand, Meta's legal defense has opposed the accusation of concealing or failing to declare assets, requesting its dismissal with the argument that this accusation is related to his ex-wife and not directly to the former head of state.
