Journalist Klodiana Lala provided new details from the serious incident this afternoon at the Court of Appeal in Tirana where Judge Astrit Kalaja was shot dead in the courtroom.
Lala says she has seen the security camera footage from the courtroom and it is shocking, as Elvisi Shkambi killed the judge with 3 bullets and then injured a father and son, the opposing party in the hearing, as they waited there without moving for the police.
"I have a position regarding what inspired it. In the first moments, there were contradictory reports as the police were investigating the incident and the details that occurred. Judge Kalaja was appointed by lot, he judged alone, a monocratic body, he followed the session from the first moment, he prepared and went to the session, in one session there was an aggravation with Gjon Shkambi.
I have seen the footage, it is shockingly serious. Today he would announce the decision in a case that has been going on since 1992 in the former army reserve in Shkodra. Gjoni was accompanied by his nephew Elvis. Referring to the cameras, it turns out that while he was reading the decision and the losing party, Elvis loaded the gun and shot the judge in the chest and shot him twice more. He pointed the gun at the court secretary but did not fire. He made no attempt to leave but waited there for the police. There were many witnesses. The perpetrator has admitted to the crime," said journalist Lala.
