Another serious incident has shocked public opinion, this time not in the capital, but in the village of Pirg in the Maliq Municipality. At its center are again two minors.
At around 5:00 PM today, two 14-year-olds were involved in a knife fight inside a bar. As a result, one of them, Erald Xhejo, was seriously injured and was rushed to the Korça hospital. Despite medical intervention, he did not survive his injuries.
According to police, the perpetrator and the victim had a previous conflict, but the reason remains unclear. Sources at the scene said the juveniles had arranged to meet to make amends, but it all ended with the use of knives and sharp objects.
This incident brings to the fore the failure of institutions to prevent the escalation of violence among young people. Just a few months ago, Albania was shaken by a similar incident in Tirana, where another 14-year-old, Martin Cani, lost his life after a conflict between teenagers.
Despite the promises and measures announced by the government at the time, it seems that nothing has changed on the ground. Even the proposal to close the social network TikTok, considered an instigator of violent behavior among young people, turned out to be simply political rhetoric by the prime minister. In reality, this social network and its violent content were not prevented.
As long as state institutions continue to react with propaganda to these serious phenomena, Albanian society will continue to face tragic events that increasingly affect young people.
