The Elbasan Prosecutor's Office has suspended all communication between convicted prisoner Sokol Mjacaj and people outside the prison, including his family. This measure was taken after it was found that Mjacaj had registered his brother's number, while in fact he was communicating with other people, including a girl, to whom he was giving instructions.
According to the Prosecution, he has not only violated prison regulations, but is also obstructing investigations into the murder of Arben Lleshi inside his cell at the high-security prison in Peqin.
The Prosecution's decision has been appealed by Mjacaj's family to the Ombudsman, but in the meantime all levels of the judiciary have rejected his requests to remove him from the harsh "41-bis" regime.
Sokol Mjacaj is accused of being the executioner of Arben Lleshi inside the Peqin prison cell. Prosecutors state that it has been proven beyond any doubt that he acted as the executioner, but investigations are continuing to identify the perpetrators and financiers of the crime, as well as his accomplices.
In recent months, before Lleshi's murder, three cell phones were seized from Mjacaj's cell and sent to a laboratory for analysis. Prosecutors are expected to analyze his communications in the hope of uncovering traces of those who ordered the crime.
Arben Lleshi was previously convicted of the murder and burning of Agim Hoxha's body in the UK. After this incident, a total of five members of the Lleshi family were killed or disappeared.
