A worker of Albanian origin has died from an electric shock while operating a cement mixing pump. The arm of the concrete mixer is suspected to have touched high-voltage cables.
A serious workplace accident occurred this morning in Lecce. The 67-year-old worker, of Albanian origin but resident of the capital of Salento, lost his life from an electric shock while engaged in construction work on Via Vecchia Frigole, in an open rural area.
According to the preliminary reconstruction of the event, the man, identified as Allushaj Limos, was operating the cement mixing pump during construction work on a stone wall (muretto a secco), when – due to a wrong maneuver – the concrete mixer arm touched high-voltage cables.
The worker was struck by a strong electric current.
The efforts of the 118 emergency doctors to revive him were in vain; they could only confirm his death. Firefighters also intervened at the scene to secure the area, as well as the state police, the carabinieri and personnel from the Service for Prevention and Safety at Work (Spesal), who launched investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident.
