The attack in Rinas, where one person lost their life and another was injured, occurred just a few hours after the Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu, reported to the Committee on Internal Affairs and Defense on the successes of the institution she leads regarding public security in the country. Koçiu stated that Albania is a safe country and referred to facts and figures.
"We have significantly increased security, achieving 95% detection of criminal offenses. The number of serious crimes has decreased, in the first nine months of this year, 29 intentional murders were recorded, out of 41 that were in the same period a year ago," said Koçiu.
But, ironically, this afternoon the country was once again bled by a gun attack between individuals linked to criminal groups, in an area where the movement of citizens is high.
Rinas' assassination seems like "karma" to challenge the minister's beautiful words that Albania is a safe country. The weapons of criminal gangs crack at any moment, even in broad daylight and in areas where police patrolling is considered heavy, near Albania's only airport.
We hope that the minister will get down to work to prevent these events that endanger the lives of citizens, and not consider the case simply as a statistic for the next propaganda.
