Merando Nikulaj, the nephew of businessman Ardian Nikulaj, who was killed in a mafia assassination attempt at his bar in Shëngjin, is suspected of having been the target of the assassination attempt on Sunday evening in Rrilë i Leshës. According to investigators, he is suspected of having been injured in the incident, but despite police searches, he has not been found for questioning so far.
The barbershop owned by Sokol Doc was shot over 30 times with Kalashnikov bullets, and as a result, 3 of them hit the owner of the salon. Merando Nikulaj managed to survive, as the police officer, BK, was inside the barbershop and shot at the perpetrators, who then fled towards Fushë Krujë.
The Nikulaj family has been at enmity with the Lekstakaj family since 1994, and since then several members of both tribes have been killed. The most serious assassination attempt is that against Ardian Nikulaj, who was shot dead by Portuguese citizen Ruben Saraiva, while 4 British citizens and a relative of the Lekstakaj family are also accused of being involved in the crime.
