Piles of garbage are no longer just an aesthetic problem on the streets of Tirana, but a serious health threat within the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center. In the territory where citizens go to get healed, they now risk becoming infected.
With only one cleaning tool that works sporadically and a single worker, the situation is out of control. The garbage remains for hours and days without being removed, at a time when the influx of virus patients is increasing, increasing the risk of spreading infections.
Infectious disease doctors warn that hospital waste is a direct source of disease, but this seems to be ignored at the QSUT. Negligence is evident not only from the cleaning services, but also from the sanitary staff themselves, where waste is disposed of without criteria and without any safety standards.
At the largest hospital in the country, irresponsibility is becoming a public danger, while no one is held accountable.
