The Constitutional Court is expected to announce today the decision regarding the request of the former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
Sources close to the Court indicate that the judges are in a meeting discussing the matter.
Veliaj challenges the dismissal decision in the Constitutional Court and, during a marathon session, presented the arguments why he considers the municipal council's decision unfair.
The Council of Ministers and the Presidency requested that the Constitutional Court reject the request, as they consider it an administrative matter.
The Constitutional Court's decision regarding his request determines the fate of the elections for the Municipality of Tirana.
Veliaj has been in detention since February 2025 and is being tried in the Special Court on 13 criminal charges, 9 of which are for corruption.
