The Constitutional Court has rejected the appeal of businessman Kastriot Ismailaj, former administrator of the DIA company, who was sentenced in 2017 by the Tirana Court to 11 years in prison for "fraud with serious consequences" and "money laundering" related to the CEZ-DIA agreement.
In his appeal, Ismailaj requested the annulment of the decisions of the Tirana Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, which had confirmed the sentence, as well as the lifting of the decision to confiscate the seized assets, which included approximately 4.2 million dollars, 450 thousand euros and 12 million lekë.
The Constitutional Court reviewed the case based solely on documents and on October 9 decided to reject Ismailaj's request.
He was accused of embezzling nearly 5 million euros during a contract with CEZ to collect energy debts. In September 2023, Ismailaj completed his sentence and was released from prison.
