On September 16, the Constitutional Court will review the requests of the former administrator of the DIA company, Kastriot Ismailaj, who is known for his acquaintance and friendship with the country's former president Ilir Meta, who has been in prison since October 2024.
Businessman Ismailaj is seeking the annulment of the court decisions that found him guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in prison on charges of fraud with serious consequences and money laundering. He is suspected of embezzling nearly 5 million euros from the implementation of the agreement that the company DIA had with the Czech company CEZ for debt collection.
Ismailaj has completed this sentence and has been released, but claims that the decisions against him are unconstitutional.
The Constitutional Court will review the case solely on the basis of documents.
At the same time, Ismailaj is also seeking the repeal of the confiscation of approximately 4.2 million USD, 450 thousand euros and 12 million lek seized at the time when the investigations against him were conducted.
The CEZ-DIA affair is one of the accusations also leveled against former president Ilir Meta, who is suspected of having influenced the conclusion of the contract between Kastriot Ismailaj's DIA and CEZ.
