A fierce debate took place at the Laws Committee meeting, after MP Olsi Komici, a former member of the Independent Qualifications Committee in the vetting process, referred to several Democratic MPs with the phrase "5 stinking Democrats".
The clash began during discussions about filming the meeting on a phone. At one point, Komici reacted to the presence of a phone in the hall and was heard saying: "5 stinking democrats," causing an immediate reaction from opposition MPs.
"Who are you calling stinky?! You should be ashamed that you are also a member of Parliament. Shame on you," a Democratic MP addressed Komic.
The comedian tried to shift the debate to phone filming, saying that the MP was filming the meeting. "Shame on you, take out your phone and film it there," he said, as the hall continued to respond.
The chairman of the committee, Ulsi Manja, intervened several times to calm the situation, emphasizing that the meeting was open and that filming was not prohibited, but according to him, parliamentary ethics had to be maintained.
"The meeting is open, you can film everything, but it's not ethical. Our vote is public, and the voting is open," said Manja.
MP Gent Strazimiri also joined the debate, demanding that Komici publicly apologize for insulting Democratic MPs.
"There is no ethical problem if you keep your phone open and film it. The ethical problem is that the one I have in front of me says '5 stinking democrats'. Now a public apology is demanded for the thing," said Strazimiri.
He also requested that the insult be noted in the meeting minutes.
After the tensions, Komici took the floor and apologized only to one of the MPs present, Mehdi Leka, effectively rejecting a general apology to the opposition.
"Regarding what I said, I apologize only to Mr. Mehdi Leka there, my fellow patriot, because I don't know the others, except for some with some patrols that I don't know what they represent," said Komici.
His statement further aggravated the debate, as instead of a full retraction, Komici accompanied the partial apology with another comment about opposition MPs.
The incident occurred during a meeting of the Laws Committee, where political tensions between the majority and the opposition shifted from procedural discussion to personal insults and the language used by the deputies in the hall.
