Citizens and activists gathered today at 5:00 PM in Skanderbeg Square, in a solidarity protest following the arrest of participants in the international initiative Global Sumud Flotilla, which was traveling to Gaza with 40 ships filled with humanitarian aid.
The protesters demanded an immediate ceasefire and an end to violence against the Palestinian population, condemning actions they described as genocide and disregard for human rights.
According to the organizers, the protest was called to show that one cannot remain silent in the face of the crimes that are taking place before the eyes of the world, while they criticized the stance of Albanian institutions, which - according to them - "continue to be complicit with the perpetrators of war crimes."
Activists called for civic awareness and pressure on governments to stop supporting violence and support efforts for peace and justice in the Middle East.
