A flotilla with a humanitarian mission has set off in recent days from Mediterranean waters with the final destination being the Gaza Strip. The "Global Sumud Flotilla", an independent international initiative, aims to break the Israeli blockade and deliver emergency aid to the Palestinian civilian population, which has been in a deep humanitarian crisis for months.
In a video message from aboard one of the ships, activist Thiago Ávila stated:
"Tell the people of Gaza we are coming." He confirmed that the flotilla is currently underway and that its next stop will be in Tunisia, where other ships carrying aid and activists from various countries are expected to join.
This flotilla represents the largest organized non-state effort to deliver humanitarian aid to a war-torn area where aid access is severely restricted. It aims to draw international attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and peacefully challenge the continued isolation of over 2 million Palestinians.
The organizers of the mission emphasize that the flotilla's activity is completely peaceful and based on international humanitarian law, appealing for the protection of civilians and respect for human dignity.
