The scandals in this country are not over. Most recently, there is talk of the strange "extension" that the Peqin municipality has made to the historic Egnatia road.
Researcher Auron Tare has raised the alarm about the danger posed to the historic Egnatia Road by the Municipality of Peqin, which surprisingly boasts of the fact that it is surrounding and "threatening" with asphalt the segment that was used by emperors and sultans over the centuries in their history-making initiatives.
The Mayor of Peqin, Bukurosh Maçi, writes that the asphalting of both sides of the historic road is a restoration and in the best interest of the continued existence of the "Via Egnatia".
"The first phase of the restoration of Via Egnatia is nearing completion! The authenticity of the original structure is being preserved, giving life to the stones that carry endless history on their shoulders. This road is not just infrastructure, but a jewel of the cultural heritage of Peqin and Albania," Maçi writes on social networks, sharing photos.
Researcher Tare calls on Prime Minister Edi Rama to intervene to stop this foolishness of the Peqin Municipality, so that the part of the Egnatia Route that lies in Albania, one of the 10 most important routes of European civilization, can be saved without delay.
Post
Mr. Prime Minister,
Please, please, please intervene and stop this massacre to the detriment of Cultural Heritage in Albania.
Besides the fact that we are becoming ridiculous in the eyes of the world, we are also destroying the wealth we have inherited over the centuries.
Our National Heritage cannot be treated in this way despite the good will that may be the reason for these ridiculous and absurd interventions.
The collapse of national Heritage institutions and the introduction of NGOs, firms and institutions that lack capacity is causing irreversible damage to Heritage.
Via Egnatia one of the 10 most important roads of European civilization. The road where the Roman legions trod during the Civil War of Caesar and Pompey. The road where the Emperors of every Imperial era trod from Rome to Constantinople. From where the Church Fathers brought the biblical messages from Jerusalem. From where the culture of the Orient arrived in Europe. The road from where the barbarians demolished civilizations but without destroying it. The road of the Crusades that flooded towards the East. The road from where the majestic Ottoman Sultans flooded towards Christian Europe. Via Egnatia, the European heritage that fate made pass among us, cannot end up drowned with the asphalt of ignorance.
Look at how our neighbors have taken care of this mosaic of European heritage. Macedonia, Greece guard it with fanaticism.
See how Italy restores and protects the Via Appia, the sister of the Egnatia, which ran from Rome to Brundisium to connect with the Egnatia.
Via Egnatia is our Road to Europe. Please stop before Europe looks down on us for what we are doing to its Heritage.
