Donald Trump has asked Vice President JD Vance to find a way to get the US out of the conflict with Iran.
Vance, who leaves for Islamabad on Friday, has been one of the most reserved advocates of war with Iran within Trump's inner circle. He has expressed ongoing doubts about military intervention abroad and has been outspoken about the risks of involving troops in a protracted conflict, the Daily Mail writes.
The vice president's visit comes as the temporary ceasefire appears threatened and the gap between Iran's public demands and those of the US and Israel appears difficult to bridge.
Vance will be accompanied by Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who have previously participated in three rounds of indirect talks with Iranian negotiators to address Tehran's nuclear and missile issues and its support for proxy groups in the Middle East, before Trump and Israel launched the conflict on February 28.
The White House has not provided detailed details about the format of the talks and has not specified expectations for this meeting.
