In an unusual intervention from the White House, Melania Trump has strongly denied any involvement in the crimes of American financier Jeffrey Epstein, denouncing slander and insinuations against her.
In a rare and unexpected public appearance, the first lady declared that the "lies and insinuations" linking her to Epstein "must end," denying any involvement or knowledge of the former financier's crimes and also warning of legal action.
The president's wife stressed that she never had a relationship with Epstein or his former partner and associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. She also denied claims that Epstein was the one who introduced her to Donald Trump.
At the end of her statement, Melania Trump called on the US Congress to hold a public hearing to hear from the financier's victims.
"The lies linking me to the disgusting Jeffrey Epstein must end today. The individuals who lie about me have no ethical standards, no humility, and no respect. I do not object to their ignorance, but I reject their base attempts to tarnish my reputation," the first lady declared.
