The Strait of Hormuz continues to remain closed, while the number of ships passing through is insufficient, causing international concern.
French Admiral Nicolas Vauzour stated during the "War and Peace" security forum in Paris that China must be involved immediately to restore navigation in this strategic area.
"We have not seen the Chinese navy intervene to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. On the other hand, there is a direct political dialogue between the Chinese and Iranian authorities to ensure that a number of ships can pass through. Will this be enough to restore smooth flow? I don't think so," the admiral said.
Vauzour added that China may need to show more impatience and be more actively involved in the talks. According to him, France is trying to bring together several countries at the political level to determine the conditions under which the Strait can be reopened, while the presence of military forces may be necessary to monitor the process. The admiral also stressed that so far there is no indication that the Strait has been mined.
