The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, has reacted after the Constitutional Court's decision to reject the request of 44 Democratic MPs regarding the procedure for electing Endri Shabani as Ombudsman.
Bardhi opposed the Court's reasoning, accusing it of distorting the facts at the moment when Democratic MPs withdrew support for the candidacies.
According to him, the DP Parliamentary Group withdrew its support on December 5, 2025, while the Laws Committee verified the candidacies and passed them for a vote in the plenary session on December 9.
Bardhi claims that this chronology contradicts the Constitutional Court's argument, according to which the withdrawal of support occurred after the procedure had passed the verification phase in the Laws Committee.
The Democratic MP stated that the DP will respect the Constitutional Court's decision as binding for implementation, but strongly opposed the reasoning used by it.
He also criticized the decision not to consider the case in a public plenary session, claiming that this avoided transparency over the circumstances of the case.
The Constitutional Court decided this Tuesday to reject the request of the DP deputies for the election of the People's Advocate. Endri Shabani also reacted to the decision, stating that he respects the decision-making and that the institution will continue its work to protect human rights.
