Israel attacked a key petrochemical plant in Iran's massive South Pars natural gas field, according to several news agencies.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed what he called "a powerful attack on the largest petrochemical facility in Iran," which is responsible for half of the country's petrochemical production. Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said there would be "no immunity" for Iran as talks progress.
Katz's statement follows an earlier report by the Fars news agency that "several explosions" had been heard from the South Pars petrochemical plant in Asaluyeh.
This calls into question negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire between the US and Tehran. The gas field shared with Qatar is the largest in the world and is located under the waters of the Persian Gulf. The attacks come weeks after international protests over Israel's attack on Iran's South Pars gas field on March 18.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the attack. After Israel's March attack on South Pars, Trump said Israel would not attack it again, but warned that if Iran continued to strike Qatar's energy infrastructure, the United States would retaliate and "massively destroy" the nuclear facility.
