Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced that they had targeted a US warship, claiming that the attack forced the naval vessel to retreat further from the area of operations.
According to a statement carried by the state-run Fars news agency, the target was the USS Tripoli, an LHA-7 amphibious assault ship.
The Iranian side claims that the attack was carried out with "lightning-speed missiles", which, according to the same statement, forced the ship to retreat deeper into the southern Indian Ocean.
However, no details were given on the exact time or location of the incident.
We recall that the US Central Command had announced that the USS Tripoli, which carries about 3,500 personnel as well as transport and combat aircraft, arrived in the Middle East on March 27, strengthening the American military presence in the region.
So far, there has been no official reaction from the United States regarding Iran's claim of an attack on this warship.
