US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard partially opposed the Donald Trump administration's stance on war in Iran in a written statement before the Senate Intelligence Committee, but later softened her tone during her testimony.
In the statement submitted to the committee, Gabbard cast doubt on the official White House narrative regarding the situation in Iran.
However, during her public appearance, she adjusted her stance, emphasizing that before the operation called "Epic Fury", Iran was trying to recover from the June attacks and continued to refuse to fulfill its obligations to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"Prior to Operation Epic Fury, Iran was struggling to recover from the June attacks and continued to refuse to comply with its obligations to the IAEA," she stated.
Gabbard, a former congresswoman from Hawaii and a U.S. Army veteran, currently heads the U.S. intelligence community and is responsible for coordinating key security agencies, such as the CIA and NSA. Her statements have sparked debate in Washington about how the U.S. administration is publicly presenting the situation and the rationale for military operations against Iran.
